Bone Appétit! Homemade Dog Treats Your Pup Will Love

If you know me, you know my dogs Taco and Baylee aren’t just pets—they’re family. As a Realtor in Greenville, SC, I spend a lot of time out and about showing homes, but when I’m home, I love spoiling them with homemade food and treats. There’s something so rewarding about knowing exactly what’s going into their bowls. And if you're like so many
pet lovers here in the Greater Greenville area, chances are your dog is a big part of your life, too.

Living in Upstate SC, I’m lucky to have access to fresh ingredients and pet-friendly shops that make homemade treats easy and fun. Whether you’re looking for a simple weekend project or want to try healthier snack options for your pup, these DIY dog treats are a great way to start. And stay tuned—at the end of this post, I’ll share the full homemade food recipe I use for my pups, Taco and Baylee!

Easy DIY Dog Treat Recipes

Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Biscuits
If your dog loves peanut butter as much as mine do, these crunchy little biscuits are a guaranteed hit. Made with just a few ingredients like pumpkin purée and whole wheat flour, they bake up beautifully and are perfect for keeping on hand for a quick treat. Find the recipe from Allrecipes here.

Frozen Banana Bites
These cool, creamy bites are a refreshing snack your pup will love. With banana, yogurt, and a little water they’re easy to mix up and freeze in silicone molds or ice cube trays.
Perfect for a warm afternoon on the porch or post-park cooldown. Find the recipe from Live Eat Learn here.

Blueberry Oat Balls
These quick treats come together in minutes and are packed with simple, dog-friendly ingredients like oats, blueberries, and banana. They’re soft, bite-sized, and great for pups who like something a little chewy. Bonus: they smell so good, you’ll be tempted to try one yourself. Find the recipe from Pawsome Recipes here.

Sweet Potato Chews
If your dog loves to gnaw, these chewy sweet potato strips are a fantastic (and healthy) alternative to store-bought snacks. They take a little time in the oven, but that’s all it takes—no additives, no preservatives, just sweet potato slices baked until chewy and delicious. Recipe from It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken here.

These treats are great for rewarding good behavior or just showing some extra love. If you’re living in one of the many homes in Upstate SC with a backyard, these are perfect to stash in your pocket during playtime or training sessions. After all, finding the right homes for pets means creating spaces where they can be happy, healthy, and spoiled just a little!

My Homemade Dog Food Recipe
I often get asked what I feed Taco and Baylee and yes—I make their meals from scratch!

• 1-2 lbs pulled chicken
• 6 lbs ground turkey (keep the fat, or replace with salmon or coconut oil if needed)
• Optional: 2.5 lbs lean ground beef, fat drained
• 5 cups white rice + 5 cups brown rice
• 2-3 bags frozen peas and carrots
• 2 large bags chopped spinach
• 2 large (or 4 small) bags cut green beans, steamed
• 2 cans sweet potato purée
• 2 cans pumpkin purée
• 8 scoops of Wholistic Pet Organics Canine Complete supplement

Mix it all together and portion into meal-sized containers to save in the refrigerator. Your pups are guaranteed to love it!
